Congratulations to the ACT Division of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) for instigating the inaugural Contaminated Land Forum.

At this successful event on 12 July 2016, over 40 industry professionals gathered at the Australian National University to catch up on the latest issues, best practice and recent changes to legislation and policy.

Richard Sharp, Senior Consultant - Environment and Infrastructure in our Canberra office, presented on the topic of managing contaminated sites in the ACT with ecological and heritage significance.

With strong growth in the development of brownfield sites in major capital cities, it was apparent that there is a growing need for contaminated land professionals to take account of the ecological and heritage values of sites when undertaking assessment and remediation activities.

Other topics included how to better understand and treat emerging contaminants such as poly and perfluorinated alkyl substances, managing asbestos, legal risks and recycling waste amongst others.
