Detailed ecological investigations completed

Sunbury Electrification Project

Our ecological consultants played a critical role in the delivery of detailed ecological investigations during the design, planning and approvals, and commisioning stages of the Sunbury Electrification Project for Public Transport Victoria.

The $270 million Sunbury Electrification Project led to the electrification of the rail line from Watergardens to Sunbury, Victoria and changed the way trains in the Sydenham-Sunbury corridor operate.

Initial ecological assessments identified suitable habitat for several national and state significant flora and fauna species including the nationally significant:

  • Golden Sun Moth Synemon plana
  • Striped Legless Lizard Delma impar
  • Growling Grass Frog Litoria raniformis
  • Large-fruited Fireweed Senecio macrocarpus
  • Spiny Rice-flower Pimelea spinescens subsp. spinescens

Targeted surveys were undertaken for these species to inform the preparation of an EPBC Act referral, submitted to the Commonwealth for determination under the Act.

Threatened species Conservation Management Plans were prepared and detailed avoidance and minimisation strategies during the construction phase of the project were implemented.
