Dam Decommissioning

Coal seam gas water holding ponds

Ecology and Heritage Partners recently assisted Arrow Energy with decommissioning old coal seam gas (CSG) water holding ponds in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Several of the dams provided habitat for a range of native and exotic fauna species, including several fish species and Snake-necked Turtles Chelodina longicollis, which were caught and removed prior to draining the dam.

The aquatic species were humanely managed in accordance with the Companies Wildlife Licence and Animal Ethics Permit. The project was completed with the highest safety standards and measures to reduce the risks of working in water in place.
