Strategic Bushfire Planning and Management

Bushfire planning is important for many development projects and public land managers, and an understanding of bushfire risk and mitigation is becoming increasingly important for our community. 

The purpose of Strategic Bushfire Planning and Management is to establish a framework of policies, processes, strategies and accountabilities to proactively manage and minimise the negative consequences associated with bushfires.

Strategic Bushfire Planning and Management involves:

  • Bushfire hazard assessment and risk analysis
  • Bushfire prevention, including hazard reduction
  • Community preparation and response in relation to bushfires

Strategic Bushfire Planning Advice

Our staff are experience in bushfire behaviour and risk management, have an intimate knowledge of the ongoing protection and management of remnant native vegetation and fauna habitat. They have provided strategic bushfire planning advice to a range of clients, including: 

  • The Department of Defence
  • Local Councils

We have developed and implemented Bushfire Management Plans and other strategic documents to cover large areas with a range of vegetation types (eg. forest, woodland, heathland and grassland), fuel loads and overall bushfire risk.

Bushfire Management Plans

Bushfire Management Plans contribute to good practice approach for planning and operational aspects of land management, and uses a qualitative risk assessment for clients to mitigate the risk and impact of fires.

  • Biomass reduction through fuel reduction burning
  • Grazing and slashing
  • Community education 
  • Fire trail construction and maintenance 


Annual programs to implement the actions and treatments identified in our plans are undertaken by land managers, relevant fire authorities and private landowners.
