Terrestrial Ecology Services

Planning and Approvals

We offer independent advice during the planning, design, development and operational phases of projects, particularly where potential and sometimes controversial ecological impacts have been identified.

Successful planning can occur when a project's potential risks to biodiversity are identified from project inception, and are monitored regularly throughout the duration of the project.

Services

  • Identify and monitor a project's potential risks to biodiversity throughout all stages of a project
  • Provide independent and pragmatic advice during all stages of a project
  • Work with agencies such as the Growth Areas Authority in Melbourne in consultation with the Department of Sustainability and Environment to identify and map ecological values across a broader precinct scale (eg. multiple land parcels) where information is used during the strategic conservation planning process. This identifies important areas for long-term protection and management in rural, urban or peri-urban environments.
  • For constraints analysis and statutory land use planning - provide accurate advice on project planning and approval under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, State Government environmental and planning legislation, and relevant Local Council policies.

  • Timely advice on environmental values and legislative implications early in the planning process of a project
  • Excellent working relationships with key stakeholders and regulatory authorities such as Commonwealth and State Government agencies (e.g. The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities) and Local Councils.
  • Effective communication with clients and agencies throughout all stages of a project to facilitate the planning approvals process
  • Representation of clients as expert witnesses at planning panels and various State Government appeals tribunals
