Cat Stephenson

Cat Stephenson has more than ten years' experience as a consultant specialising in botany and bushfire ecology. Major projects she has managed include assessing the condition of vegetation across the Victorian rail network and the fire risk it poses for six consecutive years for Public Transport Victoria, and providing expert advice for several strategic-level planning policies and their biodiversity value and bushfire risk implications on new settlements.

She has completed over 300 botany and bushfire-related reports for private landowners, developers and all levels of Government, including large-scale residential subdivisions, community/public buildings, renewable energy projects and infrastructure developments. These reports comprise Biodiversity Assessments, Fauna and Flora Assessments, Vegetation Management Plans, Land Rehabilitation Plans, Offset Management Plans, Targeted Survey Reports, Bushfire Management Statements, Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Reports, Bushfire Risk Assessments (to address Clause 13.02-1S), Bushfire Construction Management Plans, Bushfire Emergency Management Plans and Planning Scheme Amendment Reports with respect to botany and bushfire advice.

Prior to being a consultant, Cat has worked as a researcher for the Centre for Risk and Community Safety at RMIT University studying the environmental, social and economic impacts of five major bushfires in south-eastern Australia. She also worked at the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment’s State Emergency Coordination Centre, including during the 2006/07 Great Divide Campaign Fire.
