Warralily Wins National Award for Environmental Excellence

Congratulations to our client Newland Developers for winning the 2019 UDIA National Award for Environmental Excellence for Warralily, an outstanding masterplanned community in Victoria.

The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Awards recognise urban development projects that have excelled in innovation, sustainability and affordability, and have also won their respective category at a state level.

Warralily is an outstanding example of forward-thinking urban development and in addition to the national award, also won two Victorian UDIA Awards for Excellence for Environmental Excellence and best Masterplanned Development in 2018.

According to the judges' citation:

Set in a location with wide-open spaces and natural beauty, Warralily provides 82 hectares of open space, parkland and conservation gardens in a regional growth area of Victoria.

The environmental qualities espoused and delivered in this project not only create an exemplary environmental corridor through a developing masterplanned area, but also result in the re-invigoration of a national wetland system downstream.

The developers are to be commended for creating a unique sense of character and identity within a newly masterplanned community which places environmental excellence at its forefront.

It's been a privilege for Ecology and Heritage Partners to be involved in this project over the last few years. Our services included cultural heritage advice, assessments for biodiversity, flora and fauna, and detailed ecological advice for the protection and rejuvenation of Armstrong Creek.

The design and construction of Warralily incorporated careful consideration of the ecological values of the area and extra care was taken to protect, enhance and integrate the environment. Armstrong Creek and surrounding corridor is now a celebrated feature of this community.

EnviroDevelopment Certification

Warralily's excellence in environmental standards is also recognised through EnviroDevelopment certification for the elements of Ecosystems, Waste, Water and Community.

EnviroDevelopment is a national, scientifically based assessment scheme that independently reviews development projects and awards certification to those that achieve outstanding performance across four or more of the elements of Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Water and Community.
